A report from the Department of the Interior OIG issued in January says that the capture and death of the last known wild jaguar in the United States points to criminal wrongdoing. The report says that AZGFD lacked the appropriate permits needed for capturing a jaguar, intentionally or not, which violates the Endangered Species Act. After a physical examination at the Phoenix Zoo, Government officials and veterinarians concluded that Macho B should be euthanized after determining he had irreversible kidney failure.
