Description
OIG initiated this investigation after receiving an allegation that the superintendent of a tribal school in Wyoming charged more than $5,000 in personal expenses on the school's credit card, had taken out personal loans from the school's funds, and had issued himself duplicate paychecks.
We did not substantiate the allegations against the superintendent. We did not find any unauthorized personal charges on the school’s credit card. We did find the superintendent took out three personal loans from the school’s funds at various times, but these loans were common at the time, completed with the school board and business manager’s approval, and paid back completely. We also found the superintendent was paid twice during one pay period due to a clerical oversight. The school board was made aware of the duplication and the superintendent repaid the school after the additional payment was noticed.
