The OIG investigated allegations that a National Park Service (NPS) superintendent created a hostile work environment, and that a chief ranger mismanaged a law enforcement program and was also afforded protection from discipline from NPS regional officials.
We found no evidence that the superintendent created a hostile work environment at the park, or that NPS regional officials interfered in any disciplinary action regarding the chief ranger.
We did find that the chief ranger mismanaged several aspects of the park’s law enforcement program, including overtime pay for his staff, enforcement of the park’s occupancy requirements for law enforcement personnel, and scheduling of staff to ensure there was adequate law enforcement coverage at the park.
