Description
OIG investigated allegations of employee misconduct by a former superintendent at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site (JCNHS). A private citizen alleged that a former superintendent misrepresented himself as an agent of the Friends of JCNHS (Friends Group) and verbally offered him an executive director position with the Friends Group. The citizen then alleged that the former superintendent retracted the job offer after 10 months of services had already been provided.
The citizen requested a $150,000 compensation for his services to the Friends Group, which the board of JCNHS denied, citing that 1) he was a volunteer, and 2) the former superintendent was not authorized to make the job offer.
Our investigation did not uncover any evidence that indicated the former superintendent made a verbal job offer to the private citizen. Therefore, claims for compensation were not investigated because we were unable to corroborate the allegations that the job offer was made.
