Investigation of BIA Employees Finds Proceeds from Scrap Materials Sale Not Returned to U.S. Treasury

Our investigation found that Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) employees of the Facilities Management Division (FMD), Pine Ridge Agency, South Dakota, sold Government-owned scrap materials to a recycling facility and that the proceeds from those sales were not returned to the U.S. Treasury as they should have been.

 

Allegations made to the OIG stated that the employees personally benefited from the sale of the Government materials to a facility in Rapid City, SD. We found that the employees did sell the materials but did not benefit personally. Rather, the proceeds were used to purchase items for the BIA Employee Association and FMD employees.
