We initiated this investigation on January 29, 2015, at the request of BIA’s internal affairs division chief, who reported that a supervisory special agent allegedly lied to his supervisor while serving as the director of the Indian Highway Safety Program. Specifically, the report alleged that the special agent was told not to travel to the Turtle Mountain Tribe and the Three Affiliated Tribes unless he had arranged meetings with the chairmen of both tribes.
Due to the time that has passed, conflicting recollections of conversations that occurred, and the lack of documentation regarding specific instructions concerning these events, we were unable to determine if the special agent lied to his supervisor. We provided this report to the BIA director for any action deemed appropriate.
