Investigation of a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Land Law Examiner for Conflicts of Interest

Our investigation confirmed allegations that a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Land Law Examiner violated conflict of interest statutes by engaging in Federal contracts through his personal land title business while he was a Federal employee, and that he conducted personal title business from his Government office during BOEM work hours.

 

As a result of our investigation, BOEM ethics officials have engaged the employee to ensure there are no current conflicts of interest associated with his outside employment. We also found that BOEM management has addressed the matter of the employee’s working hours in accordance with Bureau policies and procedures.
