Investigation of Coral Bay Marina Project

We investigated allegations that U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) officials violated Federal regulations in awarding a Boating Infrastructure Grant to the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources to construct a mega yacht marina in the Coral Bay Area of St. John, VI. The allegations stated the project was ineligible to receive Federal funding because it would negatively impact the environment and history of the Coral Bay community.

 

Our investigation found that an FWS panel reviewed and ranked all project proposals before the FWS director approved them and that no money has been spent on this project thus far. We found no evidence to support that the project was ineligible for Federal funding.
