Unfounded Allegations of False Reporting of Oil Thefts

The OIG investigated allegations that a company operating Federal mineral leases administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) falsely reported oil thefts to avoid paying mineral royalties on crude oil produced from public lands in Wyoming.

 

Our investigation determined that no false reports of theft were made by the company. We learned that the company was actually a victim of theft, and had reported the theft to local authorities. The results of our investigation were provided to BLM’s Special Investigations Group and local law enforcement.
