Inspector General’s Statement Summarizing the Major Management and Performance Challenges Facing the U.S. Department of the Interior, FY 2015

In accordance with the Reports Consolidation Act of 2000, OIG has prepared this report to summarize the most significant management and performance challenges facing the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). The challenges listed are for inclusion in DOI’s “Agency Financial Report” for fiscal year 2015. 

 

Nine challenge areas are included in this year’s report, namely energy management, climate change, information technology, water programs, responsibility to American Indians and Insular Areas, acquisition and financial assistance, disaster response, operational efficiencies, and public safety. Each is critical to the management or performance of DOI operations.

 

The challenges described in this report encompass both the vulnerabilities that OIG has identified for DOI over recent years and the emerging issues that DOI will face in coming years.
