Description
The Organizational Assessment Report recaps OIG performance on an annual basis. This year’s report summarizes our most significant achievements of FY 2015.
These achievements resulted from our investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations as well as improvements in how we work internally. We recommended improvements, identified wrongdoing, and had a positive impact in DOI programs and activities involving energy, information technology, Indian and Insular Area affairs, acquisition and financial assistance, water, climate change, public and employee safety, law enforcement conduct, and revenue generation, among others.
In FY 2015, our reviews of DOI programs and activities identified approximately $14 million in questioned and unsupported costs, with an additional $32 million in recommendations that funds be put to better use. OIG investigations helped recover almost $14 million through settlements, penalties, fines, and restitution. A Brookings Institution report concluded that we return—based on a 5-year average—$20 for every one OIG-appropriated dollar.
Likewise, our own internal improvements described in the report helped us achieve an almost 10 percent increase in our score for the annual Governmentwide “Best Places to Work” rankings and earned us a place as a finalist for an international internal communications award.
