Description

The April 2014 Semiannual Report to Congress summarizes the Office of Inspector General’s dedicated and successful work completed from October 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014. We focused our attention on the Key Focus Areas and Investigative Priorities that we developed by reviewing the Department’s strategic plan, budget, and top management challenges to ensure that we dedicate our resources to the areas considered most important by the Department.

The Key Focus Areas for our Office of Audits, Inspections, and Evaluations are energy; water; climate change; DOI business processes and operations; Indian and Insular affairs; health, safety, security, and maintenance; and asset protection and preservation. The Investigative Priorities are contract and grant fraud; energy; scientific misconduct; ethical violations; public safety and security; and workers compensation fraud. The audit and investigative activity we highlight in this report represents a sample of these areas of attention and shows our stakeholders that we are being the best stewards possible in providing oversight for the programs and operations of DOI.

We look forward to continuing our excellent work in the remainder of this fiscal year to provide objective, timely, and actionable reports to our customers and stakeholders.
