The OIG investigated allegations that a corporation falsified a blowout preventer (BOP) test report for an offshore drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
We determined the BOP system on a drilling rig was not functioning properly during a mandated BOP system pressure test, and in March 2016, members of the drilling crew manipulated the pressure test to make it appear as if the BOP system, including the choke manifold, was successfully tested.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana declined prosecution.
