Hilcorp San Juan Resolves False Claims Act Claims for Oil and Natural Gas Royalty Underpayments to the United States

Hilcorp San Juan L.P., an oil and gas company with offices in Aztec, New Mexico, and Houston, has agreed to resolve allegations that it knowingly underpaid royalties owed on oil and natural gas produced from federal lands. The company has agreed to pay $34.6 million to resolve its False Claims Act and other liability for the conduct.

BECKLEY, W.Va. – Robert Martin, 67, of Beckley, pleaded guilty yesterday to fraudulent receipt of property from a debtor. Martin admitted to paying himself without authorization while serving as the chief executive officer of the entity that operated the West Virginia Courtesy Patrol.

New Jersey Man Sentenced for Aiding and Abetting Theft of Federal Grant Funds

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Aleksey Krylov, 42, of South Orange, New Jersey, was sentenced today to three years of federal probation, including six months on home detention, and ordered to pay $94,197.93 in restitution for aiding and abetting theft from programs receiving federal funds. Krylov admitted to diverting $94,197.93 in federal abandoned mine land (AML) remediation sub-grant funds to a West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) employee who had secretly helped Krylov obtain an AML grant award.

Las Vegas-Area Accountant Sentenced To Prison For Bribery And Tax Fraud

LAS VEGAS - A Nevada man was sentenced Wednesday to 13 months in prison for his role in separate bribery and tax fraud conspiracies.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Dustin M. Lewis, of Henderson, was a certified public accountant employed by Las Vegas-based accounting firm L.L. Bradford & Company. Beginning in February 2015 through about February 2016, Lewis conspired with and paid a public official with the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) more than $150,000 in bribes and kickbacks. In exchange for those payments, Lewis’ co-conspirator, who was a member of a selection committee responsible for awarding government contracts to perform auditing services for USBR programs, steered an audit contract to L.L. Bradford.

Waterville Man Sentenced to 9 Months Time Served, $38,000 Restitution for Downloading Child Sexual Abuse Material

BANGOR, Maine:  A Waterville man was sentenced on Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor for possessing child sexual abuse material.

U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker sentenced Terrence Talbot, 57, to time served followed by five years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $38,000. Talbot was in custody for nine months.
