We investigated concerns that OIG auditors raised during an audit of costs claimed by an NPS contractor for hazardous materials remediation post Hurricane Sandy. The concerns were that some of the costs claimed by the contractor were excessive, and that labor time was improperly reported.

An inspection of three Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) agency offices found record keeping in two of those offices to be flawed. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) reviewed record-keeping practices at the Southern Ute, Fort Berthold, and the Uintah & Ouray Agencies.

We investigated allegations that the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) pressured contractors to lower an estimate they had made of potential job losses associated with a proposed rule to protect streams located near coal mines, and that OSM ended the contract because the
