Assistant Inspector General for Management

Jorge A. Christian is the Assistant Inspector General for Management (AIG-M) at the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). Jorge joined the OIG in May 2016 as the Deputy AIG-M, served as Acting AIG-M from July 2019 to June 2020, and became the permanent AIG-M under a career Senior Executive Service appointment in June 2020. As AIG-M, Jorge is responsible for the executive leadership and direction of programs relating to financial management and budget formulation, procurement (contracting), support services, facilities and property management, human resources management, information technology management, and information security. He advises the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, and the senior OIG leadership on management and fiscal policy. He also provides critical mission support and administrative services to the OIG's nationwide workforce of approximately 290 employees and serves as the agency's Human Capital and Performance Management Officer.  
 
Prior to DOI OIG, Jorge served as the Executive Assistant/Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and as Senior Advisor for Management to the Associate Administrator for Resource and Technology Management at the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration. Jorge also served as the Budget Officer at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.  
 
Before joining the Federal Government, Jorge was an Associate Management Consultant at a consulting group where he developed financial and economic analysis reports to support clients involved in litigation. He also worked in public accounting as a staff accountant in Assurance and Advisory Business Services, where he worked on audits of large, publicly traded corporations. 
 
Jorge earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, an M.S. in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland Smith School of Business. Jorge holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Inactive) license in the State of Maryland, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation from the AICPA/CIMA. Jorge is also an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education’s Senior Managers in Government Program.
