Investigation of a U.S. Geological Survey Employee for Ethics Violations
We investigated concerns that OIG auditors raised during an audit of costs claimed by an NPS contractor for hazardous materials remediation post Hurricane Sandy. The concerns were that some of the costs claimed by the contractor were excessive, and that labor time was improperly reported.
An inspection of three Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) agency offices found record keeping in two of those offices to be flawed. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) reviewed record-keeping practices at the Southern Ute, Fort Berthold, and the Uintah & Ouray Agencies.
The Office of Inspector (OIG) conducted a follow-up inspection of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) leasing program after the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) found that the Bureau had not followed GSA's leasing requirements.
We initiated this investigation in December 2012 after receiving a complaint from the legal team of a former BP contractor who filed a False Claims Act lawsuit against BP in 2009.
